I purchased this book because i have several friends with life threatening disease who have mentioned hospice care. This author had been recommended to me. This book covers seven days in the life of Jill, a hospice nurse. It gives good insight into the care involved in hospice work both with the patients and behind the scenes from the perspective of the caregivers. You get a good idea of the day-to-day activities, which can vary greatly. You also get insight into the types of patients they care for, some of the illnesses being treated and how the families are affected. I didn't want this book to end. I ended up caring a good deal for both Nurse Jill, her family, her co-workers. I left the book a bit saddened by the deaths of several patients. I felt good, however, that they had died under the best circumstances and being loved by both their families and their nurse. Hospice is a subject that some folks simply don't want to talk about and that little is known about. I'd recommend this book to give all an insight into a caring business of dealing with a subject - death - that too many of us try to ignore until it's thrust upon us.Product details
